Who this applies to
Everyone in a mukto.net space: on the server, in chat, on the git forge, at events, and anywhere you represent mukto.net.
What we expect
- Be kind and patient. Many people here are learning. Everyone was a beginner once, including at the thing you’re best at.
- Welcome people as they are. Gender, religion, ethnicity, language, age, disability, sexuality, where you studied, which city you’re from, whether you code in Bangla or English: none of it decides who belongs.
- Argue about the work. Criticise code, designs and plans as hard as you like. Leave the person out of it.
- Share what you know. Answer the question you wish someone had answered for you.
- Respect shared resources. Other people live on this machine too.
- Ask before you share. Other people’s code, words, photos and personal details are theirs.
What isn’t allowed
- Harassment, threats, insults and deliberate intimidation, online or at events.
- Unwelcome sexual attention, comments or imagery.
- Hate speech, or attacks on anyone for who they are.
- Publishing someone’s private information without their consent.
- Following, recording or photographing people at events after they’ve asked you not to.
- Encouraging or helping anyone do any of the above.
If something happens
Tell an event organiser in person, message ~nusrat or ~farhana on IRC, or email conduct@mukto.net, which goes to both. If your report is about one of them, write to the other. You’ll get a reply from someone who isn’t involved. We’ll keep your report confidential, and we won’t share your name with the person you report without your permission.
What admins can do
Depending on what happened: a private word, a public warning, removal from a chat or an event, suspension of an account, or a permanent ban from mukto.net spaces. Admins are held to this code too.
